"Red Bull" Post-it with note, Peabody Hall, Basement Art studio
"Nobody ever wishes they'd slept more during college. Love, Red Bull"

Apparently these used to be hung up randomly all over Peabody Hall last semester. LOOK WHO FOUND ONE IN THE STUDIO! :D

Defaced Election Letter, Tree outside of Peabody Hall
Thank you Peabody Hall, for this little piece of entertainment in the morning after a long night of homework and projects.

"Red Bull" Can, Peabody Hall, Back staircase
It's amazing (alarming) how the amount of Red Bull cans found around the dorm after the weekend correlates to how 'out-of-control' the residents are on any given weekend.

Typographic Eyes

Zooey Deschanel has the most brilliant eyes and bone structure. I didn't get very far on this in class, but I believe that this was a great start!

Google, now an online art gallery?

As recently noted by the NY Times, Google began on a project called The Google Art Project. This project is a way for the public web to experience galleries and select pieces through the comfort of their own homes. In my opinion, as great as this project may be, I do not believe that the reality of the grandeur and existence of many of the pieces may be experienced through a mere computer screen. It is somewhat like a textbook---as much as one may learn about a piece, one must encounter a piece, one on one, to truly experience a piece of art.

A personal experience that backs up my belief is my own firsthand encounters with Marcel Duchamp's piece, Nude Descending A Staircase. For years, I learned about the use of color, shape, space, etc. of Duchamp's piece, and it was not until I saw this piece in person at the Philadelphia Museum of Art that I could truly come into contact with a piece so influential in the art world and my own portfolio. To date, every time that I see this piece, my eyes automatically tear up (yes, I know that this is weird and sounds common to Stendhal syndrome, a psychosomatic illness that causes rapid heartbeat, dizziness, fainting, confusion and even hallucinations when an individual is exposed to art or immense beauty in the natural world). Because of examples such as this and multiple other reasons, I do not believe that this 'online gallery' is a completely perfect way to experience the art the way that they were originally meant to be perceived.

Snow with orange food coloring, Sidewalk, outside of Peabody Hall
Remember that time that Temple got a huge snow storm, but the administration refused to cancel classes? That was the day that numerous Tyler students decided to dye the snow outside of Peabody Hall.

What is the significance of this, you may be wondering? This was the last box of cigarettes that a friend of mine bought before he finally decided to quit. (We'll see how that goes...)

New experiences

Got my first tattoo on friday :D

The Stoop - January 23

For my Minutiae project, I am creating a collection of entitled The Stoop. "The stoop" is an area prominently positioned outside of Peabody Hall at Temple University, where many students either spend their time and/or pass on their way home from class and/or J&H Dining Hall. "The Stoop" is constantly covered with trash, cigarette butts, and objects that were at some point left by a passerby. I will scan and blog many of these objects that I found in and around Peabody Hall and "the stoop", some intriguing, that I find throughout the semester.

the first blog on a non-Tumblr...

My name is Bridget Reed, and I am currently a freshman Graphic Design major at Tyler School of Art @ Temple University (even though I may eventually end up a ceramics major within the next 4 years). I enjoy painting and photography, and it is very rare that I do not have my camera with me. I love autumn and the way that the blue skies look against the orange and red leaves. I attend concerts as much as possible, and like the weird "hipster" music that people tend to dislike. I believe that the arts is one of the main things that makes me completely happy, one of the core reasons that I chose Tyler School of Art.
Question Time!
  1. Q: What is your computer experience? A: I have taken numerous Computer Graphics and computer courses, and I feel very comfortable on the computer.
  2. Q: How do you feel about technology in the arts? A: I feel as though technology should be integrated into the arts, as I use it often.
  3. Q: What is your favorite movie? A: It is a tie between "500 Days of Summer" and Dirty Dancing.
  4. Q: What is your favorite book? A: ANY books from the Harry Potter Series.

How are my feeling towards this semester, you may be wondering?
FREAKING OUT AND OVERWHELMED!!!
